Col Christopher Rego recently retired from the Indian Army (Corps of Engineers). During his service, he has served across the country including tenures with a combat Bridge Engineering unit, the Military Engineering Services (as a Garrison Engineer), the Assam Rifles (Mizoram) and the Border Roads Organisation in Manipur.

His extensive travels during seven years in that region has given him a deep insight into issues that affect the Northeastern Society.Post retirement, he has taken over as Managing Director Sunbird Trust, a not-for-profit venture catering to educating and empowering underprivileged children and youth from the NE.

Today, Sunbird Trust supports over 300 children in 16 different locations in Manipur, Nagaland and Assam. Raising funds through his friends and supporters, Col Rego has also overseen the construction of a Primary School and a Hostel in remote parts of Manipur.

On employment, youth supported by Sunbird become members of the alumni network and are encouraged to become community leaders and facilitators. They are encouraged to engage with the mission of Sunbird by contributing financially and in-kind. They serve as mentors and role models for sponsored children.

In August 2016, Col Rego was conferred with the global Ashoka Fellowship.
